The Maldives
The Climate
In Maldives the climate of Northern Atolls and Southern Atolls are
different significantly. The South Atoll has more rainfall than
North Atoll ,and South Atoll experiences lower temperature
than that of North Atoll.
Since
Maldives is located
at the equator ,Maldives Climate is determined mainly by the
monsoons.
There are two monsoon seasons in Maldives ;
northeast monsoon(dry season) and southwest monsoon(wet season).
The Northeast monsoon is also called “iruvai”, brings very
little shower and wind from November to April while the
southwest monsoon called “halhangu”, brings heavy rain and gales
from June to August.

The shift from the moist southwest monsoon to the dry northeast
monsoon over Maldives occurs during October and November.
Throughout the year, temperature remains almost same in the
Maldives. However, daily temperature ranges from around 31
degrees Celsius in daytime to 23 degrees Celsius in nighttime.
Since Maldives is located at the equator, Maldives receives more
sunshine throughout the year.
The Maldives is sometimes affected by cyclones passing through
the Bay of Bengal.Mostly this will be occurring in April/May and
again in October/November.
The best time to visit Maldives is during the dry season that is
from December to April when climate in Maldives generally
remains warm with a pleasant sky and excess of sunshine.
